Transportation Resources

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Veterans Services (EOVS) maintains a list of various transportation services available to veterans in Massachusetts. There is also a searchable statewide directory of transportation services in every city and town in Massachusetts available at Ride Match that includes all public, private, community-based, and nonprofit transportation options in one place. It includes options specific to veterans, seniors, students, and riders with disabilities.

  • If you are a service provider offering transportation services and you are not already in the directory, you can complete a New Provider Form to support outreach.

Regional Public Transportation Agencies in Massachusetts

Veterans in Massachusetts with a VA service-connected disability rating of 70 percent or higher qualify for reduced fares and automatically qualify for the MBTA’s Transportation Access Pass (TAP) or a regional Statewide Access Pass ID without needing separate medical evaluations. Veterans and their families may alternatively qualify for a pass if they are age 60 or older, have qualifying disabilities with medical documentation, are Medicare cardholders, or are clients of the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (DMH), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), or MassAbility.

  • Access passes entitle you to half-price fares on local buses, commuter rail, and subways across Massachusetts. Cards are reciprocal across transit networks. If your authority issues a TAP CharlieCard or a physical photo Access ID, bus drivers across other RTAs and the MBTA honor it for the 50 percent discount.

  • Additionally, active-duty military personnel in uniform or with active military ID ride the MBTA and select RTAs free of charge.
